Blue Cross NC is hiring a Principal Actuary to apply advanced expertise in mathematics, statistics, and business principles to complex rating, pricing, and financial forecasting. You will provide comprehensive technical support and collaborate with a team of actuaries while serving internal partners in Network Management, Underwriting, and Sales and Marketing.
What You'll Do
- Contribute actively to the success of the Actuarial Services team.
- Handle highly complex actuarial modeling.
- Lead and provide consultative support as a subject matter expert on assigned projects.
- Assist in Rating and Pricing, including developing and maintaining rating models.
- Perform Medical Trend analysis and support Administrative Expense factor development.
- Conduct Experience Studies and Rating Factor Studies.
- Support Rate Filing development.
- Assist in Financial Forecasting, working with FP&A on Plan forecasts.
- Support Network Management by evaluating financial impacts of provider contract changes.
- Assist in Underwriting support across all segments with ad-hoc requests.
- Support Sales and Marketing with new product development and existing product programs.
- Maintain continuing education requirements as set by actuarial governing bodies.
- Participate in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program if pursuing the FSA designation.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or advanced degree.
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
- 5+ years of experience in a related field.
Nice to Have
- Value Based Care experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel.
- Experience building complex financial models.
- Proven ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders and senior management.
- Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
