Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is seeking a Post-Doc in Computer Vision to strategically develop and shape the application of image-based AI tools for cost-effective use in production environments. In this role within the Embedded AI (EAI) research group, you will establish your own research focus areas and actively build partnerships with industrial collaborators.
What You'll Do
- Research the current state of Computer Vision in industry through scientific publications, lectures, and conferences.
- Conduct in-depth technology analysis based on state-of-the-art research, your own expertise, and existing tools at Fraunhofer IMS.
- Identify relevant industrial use cases, develop a strategic roadmap for Computer Vision in production, and initiate active customer outreach.
- Approach potential new partners, create offers, and develop project concepts.
- Lead and provide technical direction for research and industrial projects, including contributions to software frameworks.
- Utilize and develop tools and solutions, leveraging frameworks like OpenCV.
- Present research results and experiences through publications and at networking events.
- Supervise student assistants, scientific assistants, and academic theses at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
What We're Looking For
- A very well-completed master's degree followed by a doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field with a focus on AI/ML or Computer Vision. Alternatively, several years of comparable professional experience.
- Solid practical experience with Machine Learning/Deep Learning, particularly for time series, sensor, or image data.
- In-depth knowledge of Computer Vision and associated frameworks (e.g., OpenCV) to design complete CV pipelines from data acquisition to deployment.
- Solid proficiency in Python and/or C++, and experience with common ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
- Initial practical experience in project management.
- Strong communication and networking skills, with an affinity for customer contact and building partnerships.
- Very good German and English language skills, both spoken and written.
Nice to Have
- Experience with third-party funded projects, from proposal submission to reporting and project controlling.
- Experience in acquisition and creating offers for industrial partners.
- Knowledge in the field of Embedded/Edge-Computing (e.g., microcontrollers, edge gateways, industrial communication protocols).
