UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Phlebotomist, Outpatient, 40hr, Day

UMass Memorial Health is looking for an Outpatient Phlebotomist to join our team. In this essential role, you will collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients. You will also perform EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients as required.

What You'll Do

• Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures on patients using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques.
• Review requisitions and physician orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines. Prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN) when needed.
• Perform EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing procedures, including associated quality control and instrument maintenance.
• Process specimens through centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging.
• Provide essential patient data and insurance information for specimen registration, and may create registration for outreach specimens in the Hospital ADT system.
• Search the master patient index (MPI) for appropriate patient demographic information.
• Log specimens onto log sheets and assign accession numbers.
• Label blood and other specimens for testing according to hospital and laboratory requirements.
• Label and package specimens for transport to the laboratory.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies for your assigned area, monitor levels, and submit orders to replenish stock.
• Maintain accurate records of processes performed using manual and computer-based systems.
• Monitor and record refrigeration temperatures for refrigerators storing supplies and specimens.

What We're Looking For

• High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized phlebotomy training program.
• Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment, with maintenance of annual competencies.
• Prior documented experience performing phlebotomy.

Technical Stack

• Hospital Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) system

Benefits & Compensation

• Compensation range: $19.32 - $36.70 per hour.
• Signing bonus available (eligibility confirmed during interview).
