UPMC Hillman Cancer Center was looking for a Patient Services Representative

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is hiring a Patient Services Representative to create a welcoming and supportive experience for patients from arrival through to departure. In this critical front-line role, you will serve as a guide, helping patients navigate the healthcare system while managing administrative and financial aspects of their visit.

What You'll Do

  • Provide a warm greeting for all patients and guide them through self-arrival technology or desk check-in.
  • Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
  • Confirm and update patient registration, demographic, and insurance coverage information.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice and connect patients to resources for ancillary services.
  • Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear and understandable instructions.
  • Provide follow-up to unresolved patient questions to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Apply service recovery principles to address and resolve any service issues.
  • Register patients in the Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and explain its benefits.
  • Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration.
  • Educate patients on financial responsibility and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
  • Verify insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via online systems or phone.
  • Obtain necessary patient signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following HIPAA regulations.
  • Appropriately triage phone calls to other areas or clinical providers.
  • Assist with administrative duties including scanning medical records and faxing.
  • Stay informed on the navigation and usability of the UPMC Patient Portal to effectively guide patients.

What We're Looking For

  • Completion of high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Act 34 clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function.
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, various office equipment, and proficient typing skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems.
