Health Systems Management, Inc. is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Northside Dialysis Center in Winston Salem, NC. In this role, you will support and work under the guidance of RNs to provide dialysis treatment to multiple patients at once, using technical expertise and compassionate care to improve patient quality of life and outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Set up the hemodialysis machine.
- Greet patients, collect details about previous treatments, and report any concerns to the lead nurse.
- Assist with and prepare the patient’s vascular access for treatment.
- Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatment per established policies and standards of care.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs before, during, and after treatment.
- Calculate and document the patient’s fluid removal.
- Perform appropriate access cannulation and report any difficulties to the lead nurse.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and conduct appropriate interventions.
- Monitor dialysis machines for malfunctions and report them to the lead nurse.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control protocols including hand washing and PPE.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort, which may include assisting with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Provide direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation.
What We're Looking For
- A High School Diploma is required.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
- 6 months of healthcare and/or direct patient care experience is required.
- Continued employment depends on successful completion of the HSM training program.
- The ability to work long hours on your feet is required; shifts end when patient care is completed.
- A flexible schedule for mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
- Must pass the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) exam within 18 months of employment start.
- Must have or obtain Basic Life Support certification approved by the American Heart Association.
- Must be comfortable working around blood and needles, including cannulation and obtaining labs.
- Excellent bedside manner and communication skills.
- Must successfully pass the Ishihara's Color Blind Test.
