Role Overview
As a Patient Account Associate Tier II specializing in Credit Balances, you will manage and resolve complex patient account issues related to overpayments and credit balances. Your work ensures accurate financial posting, compliance with payer contracts, and proper handling of recoupments and refunds. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of the revenue cycle within a patient-centered organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional, courteous service to patients and internal teams
- Investigate and validate payment postings, making corrections as needed
- Review and interpret payer contracts to confirm billing accuracy
- Identify and differentiate true overpayments from erroneous credits
- Process payer recoupments, payer refunds, and patient refunds according to policy
- Access and navigate payer claim portals to retrieve documentation
- Collaborate with team members through clear written and verbal communication
- Train team members on processes and best practices
- Escalate systemic trends such as payer irregularities or workflow gaps
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year in hospital or physician revenue cycle operations, including payment posting or billing
- Proven understanding of Medicare and Medicaid billing guidelines
- Advanced knowledge of coordination of benefits, EOB interpretation, and medical terminology
- Ability to read and analyze payer contracts
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with office systems
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Time management and attention to detail
- Understanding of payment handling procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in insurance-related functions such as billing, follow-up, or call center operations within a healthcare setting
Work Environment
This is an onsite position located in Broomfield, Colorado. The role requires consistent access to computer systems and the ability to read documents and communicate in English.
Compensation & Benefits
