About the Role

UMass Memorial Health is looking for an OR Control Desk Manager to lead the daily activities for our Operating Room schedule. You will ensure efficient, high-quality service for perioperative patients by planning, directing, and controlling schedule operations. • Work to maintain the daily elective schedule as planned and implement a pre-established process for urgent and emergent schedule access.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the OR schedule, including practice standards, staffing, and quality assurance.
  • Motivate and manage assigned employees, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide assignments to perioperative staff in collaboration with OR Service Group Managers, ensuring tasks match personnel skill levels.
  • Participate in schedule preparation, considering team limitations, case types, urgent/emergent demands, and case start times and lengths.
  • Collaborate with the anesthesiologist in charge to ensure the schedule runs efficiently in line with policies and procedures, serving as a professional leadership role model.
  • Communicate routinely with OR Service Group Managers regarding case status.
  • Make rounds and maintain awareness of patient care levels in the Surgical Admissions Care Unit (SACU) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), instructing and correcting policy or procedure errors as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care when required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. Understanding and demonstration of conflict resolution concepts. Ability to direct others and negotiate for desired results.
  • Strong, thorough knowledge of computer systems and software.
