UMass Memorial Health is looking for an OR Control Desk Manager to lead the daily activities for our Operating Room schedule. You will ensure efficient, high-quality service for perioperative patients by planning, directing, and controlling schedule operations. Reporting to the Director of Peri-Operative Services, you will work collaboratively with the Anesthesiologist in charge and surgical leadership to maintain seamless care.
What You'll Do
- Construct assignments with OR Service Group Managers based on patient, surgeon, and anesthesiology requirements.
- Monitor on-time case starts for both elective and assigned urgent/emergent cases.
- Maintain active communication among surgeons, anesthesiology staff, nursing staff, sterile processing staff, and ancillary departments to ensure schedule progression and resolve issues.
- Work to maintain the daily elective schedule as planned and implement a pre-established process for urgent and emergent schedule access.
- Proactively review future schedules (next day, three days, and one week ahead) with the scheduler to adjust plans and coordinate advanced situations with OR Service Group Managers and Anesthesiologists.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the OR schedule, including practice standards, staffing, and quality assurance.
- Motivate and manage assigned employees, equipment, and materials.
- Provide assignments to perioperative staff in collaboration with OR Service Group Managers, ensuring tasks match personnel skill levels.
- Participate in schedule preparation, considering team limitations, case types, urgent/emergent demands, and case start times and lengths.
- Collaborate with the anesthesiologist in charge to ensure the schedule runs efficiently in line with policies and procedures, serving as a professional leadership role model.
- Communicate routinely with OR Service Group Managers regarding case status.
- Make rounds and maintain awareness of patient care levels in the Surgical Admissions Care Unit (SACU) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), instructing and correcting policy or procedure errors as needed.
- Provide direct patient care when required.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
- Current Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) credentialing, or commitment to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an OR.
- Demonstrated leadership potential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. Understanding and demonstration of conflict resolution concepts. Ability to direct others and negotiate for desired results.
- Strong, thorough knowledge of computer systems and software.

Team & Environment
You will report to the Director of Peri-Operative Services and work collaboratively with the Anesthesiologist in charge and surgical/anesthesia medical directors.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $111,384.00 - $200,491.20.
