HII Mission Technologies is hiring an Optimization Tech Debt Engineer to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) program. In this role, you will modernize and sustain complex training and simulation software for the Joint Staff J7, focusing on reducing technical debt and delivering high-quality solutions within a collaborative team.
What You'll Do
- Identify and prioritize technical debt across the codebase
- Refactor legacy and high-complexity code to improve maintainability
- Reduce code duplication and enhance modularity
- Expand and stabilize automated testing (unit, integration, regression)
- Upgrade outdated libraries, frameworks, and dependencies
- Address security vulnerabilities and deprecated components
- Improve CI/CD pipeline reliability
- Enhance logging, monitoring, and error handling
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and coding standards
- Work with feature teams to plan and execute improvement initiatives
- Conduct research and support system architecture, design, and development
- Analyze user needs and system capabilities to solve technical challenges
- Write high-quality, standards-compliant code
- Test software, document findings, and resolve issues
- Support development and updates for virtual environment training courses
What We're Looking For
- 2 years experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 0 years with a Master’s; or a High School Diploma/equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
- Experience developing in a Linux environment
- Proficiency working with Agile methodologies and frameworks
- Experience with Confluence, Jira, and Git
- Proficiency in Java and JavaScript
- Experience with NodeJS and ReactJS
- Working knowledge of C++/C# in Visual Studio
- Strong debugging skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
Nice to Have
- Knowledge with distributed systems and system architecture
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience working with relational and NoSQL/graph databases preferred
- Familiar with developing and maintaining Helm charts
- Background in performance optimization
- Experience leading technical improvement or modernization efforts
