Veolia Environnement SA is looking for an Operator in Training to join our water/wastewater treatment operations. In this entry-level role, you will operate and maintain the equipment that purifies water to meet permit and operational requirements, ensuring the safe and effective functioning of a critical facility.
What You'll Do
- Operate and tend to automatic and semi-automatic machines including pumps, engines, generators, valves, chemical feed systems, and odor control equipment.
- Monitor control panels, adjust valves and gates, and regulate flow using remote control systems.
- Observe and record data from flow meters, gauges, and programmable logic control units in shift logs.
- Diagnose basic operational problems, take corrective action, and report suspected malfunctions.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance, lubrication, and minor equipment adjustments.
- Conduct manual labor tasks such as cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Operate vehicles for plant operational purposes.
- Perform field and routine lab tests (chemical, physical, biological) on wastewater and sludge.
- Sample wastewater, sludge, and gases according to a set schedule.
- Prepare chemical solutions, service automatic samplers, and monitor chemical supplies.
- Perform routine instrument calibration for portable meters.
- Assist in other areas of the plant as required.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Between six months to two years of experience in a related position and environment.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English for operational, process, safety, and quality instructions.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment.
- Working ability to use computer programs for process control.
- Ability to work in a team environment and assume new responsibilities.
- Must be able to serve a rotational 24-hour emergency on-call shift if required.
- Typically holds or is working toward a first-level water/wastewater treatment certificate.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
