Responsibilities
- Define and uphold the long-term architectural direction and guiding principles for the OpenShift platform.
- Ensure architectural coherence and consistency across engineering teams and product offerings.
- Anticipate future technical challenges and formulate forward-looking strategic responses.
- Serve as the ultimate authority for critical technical decisions when consensus cannot be reached.
- Lead initiatives that span multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
- Collaborate with external partners to maintain architectural integrity and system reliability.
- Work closely with product management to shape and refine the product roadmap.
- Offer strategic direction by balancing technical timelines with business objectives.
- Establish engineering goals focused on system maintainability, supportability, and technical debt reduction.
- Support scoping and long-range planning to ensure alignment between technical vision and business needs.
- Manage release coordination, especially in relation to Kubernetes version cycles.
- Exemplify technical excellence through active participation in coding and development practices.
- Mentor and develop technical leaders and engineers throughout the organization.
- Promote broad dissemination of technical knowledge to prevent information silos.
- Advance technical succession planning and mitigate risks associated with key personnel dependencies.
- Leverage large language models (e.g., Google Gemini) for solution ideation, research, documentation summarization, communication drafting, and improving problem-solving efficiency across development phases.
- Foster agreement among senior engineers and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
- Reinforce core engineering and product management priorities and philosophies.
- Engage with teams outside the OpenShift organization to ensure alignment and collaboration.
- Participate in hiring processes, candidate evaluations, and staffing strategy discussions.
- Have final authority on revert decisions for any merged code in the OpenShift codebase.
- Coordinate with TRT, Test Platform, and OpenShift teams to advance test automation capabilities.
- Collaborate across Software Engineering and Quality Engineering to improve validation methodologies and tooling.
