GeeksOnSite is hiring an On-Call IT Field Technician to provide on-site technical support in the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI area. In this role, you will work independently to diagnose and resolve issues for residential and small business customers, accepting jobs based on your own availability and route.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose and repair hardware and software issues on Windows and macOS systems.
- Resolve boot errors, operating system issues, and login problems.
- Set up or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and wired internet connections.
- Replace or upgrade hardware components like HDD, RAM, and cooling fans.
- Configure or connect printers and scanners from brands like Canon, HP, and Brother.
- Address common printer error codes, such as ink absorber or paper feed issues.
- Perform general maintenance on multifunction printers (MFPs).
- Reinstall operating systems using bootable USBs or recovery media.
- Install remote tools or shortcuts as requested by customers.
- Communicate clearly with customers and provide basic post-service support.
- Document service visits and escalate complex issues as needed.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of field IT support experience, including computer and printer repair.
- Familiarity with common printer brands like Canon and HP.
- Knowledge of error code troubleshooting, such as Canon code 1700, boot issues, and driver conflicts.
- Experience troubleshooting both Windows (10/11) and macOS.
- Must have personal tools, including a bootable USB and screwdriver set.
- A reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- A smartphone with camera and data for documentation and communication.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a professional demeanor.
