Gannett’s USA TODAY Sports seeks a National Soccer Writer to strengthen its coverage with versatile, audience-focused reporting. This role requires supreme soccer knowledge and the ability to write on a variety of sports. You will join a sustainable, growth-focused media company dedicated to informing, inspiring, and connecting audiences.
What You'll Do
- Create smart, thoughtful, and engaging content in a variety of formats to grow audience on USA TODAY and network sites.
- Master best practices for search and social media reach, committing to getting content to the top of Google carousels.
- Stay on the front lines of trending topics to disseminate quick responses on what’s buzzing in the soccer world.
- Engage readers daily through written, video, and social media content.
- Track performance and adjust strategies constantly to reach performance goals.
- Display creativity in developing fresh content, writing SEO-friendly headlines, sharing content socially, and selecting images and video.
- Execute strategy and make massive audience gains in a fast-moving journalism environment.
What We're Looking For
- A college degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years’ experience as a sports journalist with a focus on fast-paced digital content production and multimedia expertise.
- Understanding of various news and information content management systems.
- A history of collaboration, innovation, and goal achievement.
- Proven ability to maximize readership by anticipating news, researching trends, and delivering content in a variety of story forms.
- Exceptional social media and engagement skills.
- Ability to write with accuracy and precision.
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Nice to Have
- Bilingual skills are a plus for covering the global game.
