Stride K12 / Volunteer State Virtual Academy (VSVA) seeks a Middle School Social Studies Teacher, a highly qualified, state-certified educator to deliver course content online. You will provide instruction and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on individual student needs, primarily working from home with occasional travel.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership for students’ academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Asynchronously support learning objectives, including composing emails, planning course objectives, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs.
- Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, interventions, and data-driven decision making.
- Be open to being coached regularly by administrators and teacher trainers.
- Augment course content according to prescribed policies using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
- Submit grades and required student work, ensuring academic honesty; maintain grade book; make placement and promotion decisions.
- Generate formal and informal reports on student progress, alerting administrators to concerns.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly with students and learning coaches/parents.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom.
- Support students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment, including basic computer troubleshooting.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students progress successfully.
- Respond to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events, or other extracurricular activities.
- Travel to testing sites to proctor state exams.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Six (6) months of student teaching experience.
- Ability to clear required background checks.
- Tennessee Middle School Social Studies Teaching Certification.
- Must be able to obtain a Tennessee Teaching License prior to employment.
- Ability to attend in-person professional development sessions, testing, and other school events.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4).
- Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time).

- Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align them with the K12 curriculum.

- Access to reliable high-speed internet.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience working in a virtual environment.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with Blackboard Collaborative, Newrow, Edgelink, or other online platforms.

Work Mode
This is a hybrid role. Tennessee residents are preferred. We will also consider residents of: Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
