As a Member of Technical Staff in Applied Machine Learning, you will collaborate directly with enterprise clients to develop tailored large language model solutions that extend the limits of current AI. This role blends technical depth with customer engagement, requiring you to turn complex, open-ended challenges into well-defined machine learning problems with measurable outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement custom LLM solutions using Cohere’s model stack, including custom pretraining, post-training pipelines, and retrieval-augmented systems.
- Develop state-of-the-art modeling approaches that improve performance on real-world customer applications.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, defining clear evaluation frameworks and success metrics.
- Contribute enhancements back to the core model infrastructure—such as tuning methods, new capabilities, and evaluation tooling.
- Identify high-impact opportunities where language models can drive transformation for enterprise partners.
What We’re Looking For
- Firm grounding in machine learning principles and the ability to structure ambiguous problems into solvable ML tasks.
- Proficiency in Python and common ML/LLM frameworks.
- Experience with large-scale data, distributed training, or inference systems—or the ability to quickly master them.
- Familiarity with LLM architectures, fine-tuning methods like CPT and post-training, and evaluation strategies.
- Proven impact in improving LLM behavior and performance in practical settings.
- Curiosity about the broader ML research landscape and motivation to advance the state of the art.
