Oak Street Health is hiring a Medical Scribe (Clinical Informatics Specialist) to support our primary care providers by managing clinical documentation. This allows providers to focus on delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. You will be a key partner in the patient care journey, from morning huddles to documenting in the exam room and assisting with follow-up steps.
What You'll Do
- Document patient encounters in a structured note, including history of present illness, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
- Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Prepare After Visit Summaries.
- Consult with the provider to ensure accurate and specific documentation.
- Request and review medical records.
- Leverage population health tools to support clinical documentation improvement.
- Prepare for and support Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
- Consult with the provider on clinical documentation opportunities.
- Place orders and referrals.
- Address clinical tasks.
- Support the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications, either from a pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience.
- Advanced listening and communication skills.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows.
- Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve (required where indicated).
- Ability to adapt to new workflows and to quickly learn new concepts and skills.
- Ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care, including adapting to the provider's working style.
- Excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person in our clinics.
- Ability to commit to at least 1 year in the role.
- Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours (full-time position) with predictable hours and break times.
- Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA.
- US work authorization.
Nice to Have
- Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering.
- Prior scribe or transcription experience.
- Ability to type 70+ words per minute.
Team & Environment
Scribes are paired with a provider and serve as clinical documentation assistants.
