Thomson Reuters is looking for a German-speaking MCR Technical Operations Engineer to join our team in London. You will be a key member of the Master Control Room (MCR), responsible for the technical assessment, coordination, and supervision of incoming news feeds and the transmission of coverage to Reuters video products, with a focus on serving German-speaking audiences.
What You'll Do
- Work in the London MCR as part of the wider global TV operations team.
- Use your German language skills (spoken and written) to ensure Reuters content reaches its global audience.
- Configure, route, supervise, and coordinate video/audio signals from linear and file-based sources.
- Supervise and assess signal qualities to ensure high technical standards.
- Take a key role in the preparation, testing, and deployment of equipment for field operations.
- Perform proactive health checks on key systems and conduct first-level fault diagnosis.
- Use problem-solving skills to quickly identify service-affecting issues and work with global support teams.
- Continually review and optimize operational protocols to meet business needs.
- Produce high-quality operational documentation to support MCR operations and ensure service continuity.
- Work various shift patterns as required, including night shifts, with the possibility of travel at short notice.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a broadcast TV environment.
- A good understanding of speaking, reading, and writing German.
- Demonstrable knowledge of video (including signal formats/standards), compression/conversion techniques for linear and file-based video, and file transmission methods.
- Practical knowledge of IT infrastructure and connectivity, TCP/IP networking, and multi VLAN networks.
- Knowledge and experience of IP-based video delivery, including associated technical standards and transport protocols.
- Quality assessment skills required to supervise TV operations to a high technical standard.
- Good levels of situational awareness and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for the clear flow of detailed information.
- Willingness and pro-activity to assist in all areas of the operation.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and consultative problem-solving skills.
