Omnidian was looking for a Manager, Data Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and coach a team of six Data Engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Ensure team has measurable SMART goals (OKRs) and understands how these goals impact our company goals and strategies; hold yourself and team accountable for performance against these goals.
  • Own workload management for the Data Engineering team, including intake, prioritization, resource allocation, and metrics.
  • Own successful outcome and positive impact for critical large scale data engineering projects including project management, resource management and communication.
  • Mitigate risks and clear blockers.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to drive initiatives.
  • Own team performance against established SLAs, including visibility into SLA adherence over time.
  • Establish and provide visibility for metrics that will identify bottlenecks or other improvement opportunities.
  • Own proactive communication of the team’s goals and accomplishments.
  • Work closely with technical data engineering leads to establish a data engineering roadmap.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment on roadmap and prioritization.
  • Identify dependencies for successful completion of roadmap, coordinate with stakeholders to ensure dependencies are reflected on appropriate roadmaps.
  • Tie company objectives back to team roadmap.

  • Data Engineering Expertise: You have hands-on experience designing, building and testing data pipelines. You are familiar with Data Engineering best practices, processes and standards.
  • Data Architecture Experience: You are comfortable with data architecture and patterns for both structured and unstructured data.
  • Communication: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You excel at cross functional coordination and are able to build consensus. You would describe yourself as a good listener and are enthusiastic to learn from others.
  • Value Creation: You understand business needs, users, technology, and data, and collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver data solutions that provide business value.
  • Problem-Solving: You demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • 5+ years experience as a Data Engineer.
  • 3+ years experience as a people manager.
  • Proficiency at successfully managing large scale data engineering projects.
  • Hands on experience building data pipelines within a structured deployment environment.
  • Experience with Agile project management.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Understanding of data modeling principles.
  • Experience working with time series data.
  • Experience with Databricks.
  • Experience with RDS.
  • Understanding of challenges and best practices working with IoT data.
  • Experience directly working with IoT Data Pipelines.
  • Experience creating a medallion structure data warehouse.
  • Knowledge of Data Governance and Security.
  • Experience with Salesforce.
  • Comfortable with object oriented programming languages such as Python.
  • Comfortable with SQL.

Nice to Have

  • Renewable Energy Industry experience.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems like Spark, Kafka and data lakes.
