GFT Technologies SE is seeking a Mainframe COBOL Developer to join a project for a leading banking client. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing COBOL programs within a mainframe environment, analyzing business requirements, and ensuring system reliability.
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL programs in the mainframe environment.
- Support batch and online processing (CICS/JCL).
- Analyze business and technical requirements from client stakeholders.
- Perform impact analysis and code remediation.
- Troubleshoot production incidents and provide L3 support.
- Optimize performance of existing mainframe applications.
- Ensure compliance with client development and security standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, BA, Infrastructure, DevOps).
- Support testing cycles (SIT, UAT, Regression).
- Maintain technical documentation and version control.
- Handle application maintenance, enhancements, and production support.
- Implement regulatory and compliance changes.
- Support legacy modernization initiatives.
- Participate in batch performance optimization projects.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in mainframe COBOL development.
- Strong expertise in COBOL development.
- Solid knowledge of JCL.
- Experience with CICS for online transaction processing.
- Experience with DB2 or IMS databases.
- Familiarity with mainframe change management tools (Endevor, Changeman, or similar).
- Knowledge of batch processing and scheduling.
- Proven production support experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in global and distributed teams.
- Proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work under pressure in production environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced English (B2+/C1) required for meetings and technical documentation.
Nice to Have
- Experience in banking or financial services.
- Exposure to client-specific processes or standards.
- Knowledge of the z/OS environment.
- Basic understanding of APIs or legacy modernization initiatives.
- Agile/Scrum experience.
