The Swiss Federal Administration is hiring for a role focused on Machine Learning for Sustainable Grassland Management. You will develop new approaches for improved understanding and sustainable management of grassland systems at the landscape level. This position involves tackling applied scientific questions to contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources.
What You'll Do
- Develop new approaches for improved understanding and sustainable management of grassland systems at landscape level.
- Analyze remote sensing data, including satellite data and time series, using machine learning methods.
- Link remote sensing and environmental data to analyze impacts of climate and land use change on Swiss grassland systems.
- Prepare scientific publications and present results at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to the further development of the Swiss platform for Earth observation and analysis of agroecosystems.
What We're Looking For
- A university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Geography, Remote Sensing, Environmental Systems Science, or a related field.
- Very good programming skills, ideally in Python, and demonstrated experience in machine learning.
- A strong interest in applied questions from agriculture, ecophysiology, or geography.
- A solution-oriented, self-motivated, and structured work approach, with enjoyment of teamwork and interdisciplinary exchange.
- Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and English.

You will report to the Teamleiter Räumliche Datenwissenschaften der Agrarlandschaft (Team Leader Spatial Data Science of Agricultural Landscape). You will work with modern methods on applied questions and develop solutions at a scientifically excellent level.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located at 8046 Zürich.
