Power Factors is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer (Edge Devices) to oversee the development, production, and lifecycle maintenance of thousands of deployed bare metal units. You will ensure the reliability and performance of our systems while enabling rapid improvement for our industrial customers.
What You'll Do
- Automate deployment, maintenance, and upgrades across industrial PCs running systems like AlmaLinux 9, Debian, and vendor-specific Linux
- Onboard new hardware platforms and maintain existing ones
- Maintain a custom Linux package repository for supported targets (x64, armhf, arm64)
- Develop and maintain lifecycle tools using Bash, Python, and Go
- Create production flows and continuous deployment processes for large-scale deployments
- Advocate for changes that improve system reliability, performance, and serviceability
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience with Linux, CLI, scripting, tools, and services
- Extensive experience with RHEL (CentOS, ALMA, Rocky) & Debian (Ubuntu) distributions
- Proficient in package management (RPM, deb), building, and cross-compilation
- Strong networking knowledge (DHCP, DNS, routing, NAT, VPN, VLAN, web servers, proxies)
- Experience with industrial PCs, SBCs, and embedded systems
- YOCTO/OpenEmbedded experience
- Strong scripting (Bash, Python) and C skills
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field
- A team player who actively shares knowledge and can work with minimal supervision
Nice to Have
- An embedded systems development background
- Experience with Ansible
- Strong documentation habits
- Skill in troubleshooting issues to their root cause
- A preference for standardization over temporary hacks
- Openness to new tools and processes
