This senior contract position plays a key role in shaping design strategy and execution across a sustained programme of work. The individual will lead hands-on design initiatives, guide design system governance, mentor team members, and engage with stakeholders to ensure cohesive, accessible, and user-centred digital experiences across multiple products.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to define and uphold high standards of visual and interactive design
- Lead the management and evolution of a design system, providing teams with necessary tools and guidance
- Engage with stakeholders to assess how design changes affect multiple product environments
- Evaluate the scope and impact of interface enhancements in existing applications
- Contribute to business development by supporting proposals for new client engagements
- Guide junior team members through mentorship and knowledge sharing initiatives
- Maintain awareness of emerging design trends and advancements in design tools
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience designing interfaces for web and mobile applications
- Background in IT consultancy or a design agency setting
- Proven ability to shape and influence stakeholder perspectives on user experience and interface design
- Exceptional communication and teamwork abilities
- Strong interest in implementing and scaling design systems across large projects
- Practical experience applying responsive design principles and accessibility standards
- Proactive problem-solving attitude with a focus on delivering solutions
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand

- Formal education in design disciplines
- Experience using design tokens to maintain consistency between Figma assets and code implementation
