About the Role

Wells Fargo is hiring a Lead Quantitative Analytics Consultant to deliver high-impact analytic and data science projects in support of operational risk initiatives. This partner-facing role will lead a small group of junior data scientists as the technical lead for enterprise-grade Generative AI programs within the Chief Operating Office organization.

What You'll Do

  • Work individually or as part of a team on data science projects, closely partnering with business stakeholders across the organization.
  • Lead a small group of junior data scientists and serve as the technical lead supporting enterprise-grade Gen AI programs.
  • Develop statistical, machine learning, and GenAI models using techniques like supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised learning with technologies including SAS, R, Python, Spark, H2O, and Aster.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, BI, and UI specialists to deliver top-tier analytical solutions.
  • Define business problems and translate them into well-structured analytical problems.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in data science and analytics with hands-on knowledge of related tools and technologies.
  • Deep working knowledge of machine learning and deep learning, including model selection, training dynamics, overfitting, and evaluation tradeoffs.
  • Practical mastery of prompt engineering and LLM behavior control, including structured prompting, chain-of-thought, robustness, and security considerations.
  • Ability to design and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems using embeddings, vector databases, chunking, and reranking techniques.
  • Experience with model evaluation, monitoring, and Responsible AI, covering bias, hallucination mitigation, governance, and human-in-the-loop validation.
  • Strong MLOps/LLMOps capabilities, including model lifecycle management, experiment tracking, deployment, cost control, and latency optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python-based data science and software engineering, with experience integrating GenAI into scalable, production-grade systems.
  • Ability to provide exploratory data analysis using Python, R, SAS, or SQL.
  • Experience with databases like Oracle, Teradata, and SQL Server.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with data integration and cleanup.
  • Experience working with structured data and semi-structured text or Excel files.
  • Business Intelligence skills with tools like Tableau, Power BI, Shiny, Dash, or HTML5.
  • Business Analytics skills: data mining, trend analysis, forecasting, pattern recognition, opportunity identification, consultative problem definition, and presentation to management.
  • Strong oral and written communication and consultative skills, with a commitment to delivering timely analyses that surpass partner expectations.

Nice to Have

  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Experience with output deployment using technologies like HTML5, Shiny, or Django.
  • Working expertise in TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch.
  • Ability to translate analytical data into useful business information.
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn business aspects quickly.
  • Knowledge of the banking industry and products in areas like credit cards, mortgage, deposits, loans, or wealth management.
  • Knowledge of functional areas such as risk, marketing, operations, or supply chain within banking.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize between projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

You will lead a small group of junior data scientists within the AIM (AI Innovation and Modeling) central analytics group, which is part of the Product, Analytics and Modeling (PAM) department.
