Responsibilities
- Act as primary technical authority for the institution's web platform, ensuring architectural soundness, long-term viability, and maintainable systems
- Lead development, deployment, and ongoing support of websites and web applications built on Drupal, including integrations
- Create, test, and maintain secure, accessible, and well-documented code that meets high standards of quality
- Define and uphold coding standards, development practices, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency and minimize technical debt
- Assess the web platform’s performance, security, accessibility, and alignment with institutional goals to recommend strategic improvements
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on digital strategy while jointly setting technical standards and architectural direction with IT leadership
- Deliver data-driven insights on initiatives that carry significant cost, risk, or maintenance burden
- Translate complex technical considerations into clear, non-technical terms to support informed decision-making
- Contribute to evaluations of content management system evolution, including future alternatives to Drupal
- Champion digital accessibility by applying WCAG guidelines and working with institutional accessibility leads
- Coordinate with security teams to follow secure coding practices and meet compliance requirements
- Track platform health metrics and proactively suggest enhancements for reliability and sustainability
- Assist in intake, prioritization, and planning of web projects in partnership with IT and Marketing
- Participate in after-hours response for critical outages affecting key operations, though such events are infrequent due to hosting on Pantheon
- Maintain thorough documentation and knowledge transfer processes to safeguard continuity
- Oversee external vendors by defining project scope, reviewing work, and ensuring adherence to institutional standards
- Guide and mentor developers, student workers, and external collaborators
- Build effective cross-campus relationships through transparent communication and shared responsibility
- Uphold values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all technical and collaborative efforts
- Cultivate a respectful and inclusive work environment when engaging with internal and external stakeholders
