Leidos is hiring a Lead Distribution Engineer

Lead electrical distribution engineering projects for electric utilities. Design, analyze, and quality-check distribution systems. Collaborate with clients and internal teams. Support both field and office-based engineering activities. Work within a hybrid model combining in-office and remote work

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of electrical distribution work packages
  • Conduct engineering design and analysis for distribution systems
  • Work on programmatic, capital, and reliability-focused designs including third-party attachments, make-ready projects, transformer loading, reconductoring, voltage conversions, distributed generation, FLISR, and underground systems
  • Manage QAQC responsibilities for assigned engineering team
  • Participate in quality reviews of team designs before client submission
  • Review engineering design packages directly with clients
  • Evaluate and organize existing program workloads
  • Analyze project scope and maintain schedule alignment to support client priorities
  • Engage directly with clients on an as-needed basis
  • Provide engineering support during construction phases
  • Conduct post-construction evaluations to confirm compliance with engineering and construction standards
  • Coordinate with conflicting utilities and resolve field engineering design conflicts
  • Assist in developing work permits, easements, and right-of-way applications
  • Operate effectively in both field and office environments
  • Perform site visits to collect field data for work package development
  • Contribute to team hiring and future staffing decisions

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in electric distribution projects within a consulting firm or electric utility
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; relevant experience may substitute for engineering-specific degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Experience in engineering design quality control processes
  • Familiarity with pole loading software such as O-Calc or Pole Foreman and distribution pole analysis
  • Ability to use personal vehicle for job-related travel, with reimbursement at IRS-approved rates
  • Willingness to perform both field and office duties
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments when necessary
  • Must be able to conduct customer-site visits for field data collection
  • Must hold a valid U.S. driver's license

Nice to Have

  • EIT Certification
  • Prior experience in QAQC roles
  • Experience in cost estimation, bill of materials (BOM) development, and CIAC calculations
  • Proven customer interaction experience
  • Proficiency with STORMS software and GIS systems
  • Previous leadership experience

Compensation

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. Job-related travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates
