Lead Data Scientist | Health – This role leads analytical initiatives for healthcare organizations, focusing on solving intricate data challenges and delivering measurable business impact. You will oversee end-to-end delivery of data science projects, ensuring technical excellence and strategic alignment with client goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the design and implementation of advanced analytics solutions tailored to healthcare clients, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and real-world applicability
- Supervise and mentor a team of data professionals, supporting their technical development and career progression through coaching and knowledge exchange
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels, from technical experts to senior executives, to align data strategies with organizational objectives
- Communicate complex findings clearly through presentations and reports, translating data-driven insights into actionable business recommendations
- Utilize advanced SQL and Python skills to process large datasets, develop pipelines, and create interactive dashboards on cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure, or Databricks
- Integrate generative AI tools to improve analytical workflows, enhance output quality, and stay ahead of evolving technology trends
- Support a collaborative office culture by actively engaging in team initiatives and promoting knowledge sharing within the Johannesburg location
Qualifications and Experience
A successful candidate will have at least seven years in data science or advanced analytics, including leadership experience guiding technical teams. Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential for managing complex data environments. A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or a related field is required.
Experience working with cloud-based data architectures and large-scale processing systems is expected. Demonstrated ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences and influence decision-making is critical. Prior success in building stakeholder trust and understanding business needs to shape effective solutions is highly valued.

Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid model with three days per week onsite in Johannesburg and two days remote. There is also flexibility to work outside the primary location for up to two months annually.
