About the Role
The technician will be responsible for transitioning laboratory-based PCs to Windows 10, including system preparation, data transfer, software reinstallation, and validation to maintain compliance and functionality in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Migrate laboratory computer systems from older operating systems to Windows 10
- Ensure all hardware is compatible with the updated operating system
- Back up critical data prior to system updates
- Reinstall and configure required software applications after migration
- Validate system functionality post-migration
- Document each migration step for audit and compliance purposes
- Coordinate with lab personnel to schedule migrations during low-activity periods
- Minimize downtime during the transition process
- Troubleshoot technical issues arising during or after migration
- Verify device drivers are up to date and functional
- Ensure peripheral devices operate correctly after OS updates
- Follow established change control procedures
- Maintain accurate records of all system changes
- Support validation of computer systems in accordance with regulatory standards
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures for future migrations
- Communicate progress and issues to project leads
- Adhere to laboratory safety and security protocols
- Work within defined project timelines
- Escalate complex technical problems to senior staff
- Participate in pre-migration testing and planning sessions
