Boots is hiring an IT Solution Architect

The IT Solution Architect plays a central role in shaping technology direction for large-scale projects within international retail, supply chain, and commercial operations. You will be responsible for creating robust, future-ready solution designs that align with enterprise goals, ensuring consistency, reusability, and technical excellence across the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver end-to-end solution architectures for transformational IT initiatives, maintaining alignment with governance frameworks.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams, business units, and external partners to ensure architectural outputs meet functional and strategic needs.
  • Develop and refine technology roadmaps, contributing to long-term planning and capability evolution.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and domain specialists to define standards, patterns, and reusable solution components.
  • Review and validate designs and cost estimates from internal teams and third parties, ensuring value and accuracy.
  • Advise on complex design trade-offs, balancing cost, scalability, and business impact to maximize return on investment.
  • Support procurement activities by providing technical insight during supplier evaluations and tender processes.
  • Maintain oversight of architectural integrity through peer reviews and governance checkpoints across project phases.

Qualifications and Experience

You bring a strong foundation in solution architecture with at least five years of hands-on experience. Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and integration patterns is essential, along with experience working alongside security, infrastructure, and data governance teams. You should be skilled in translating business requirements into scalable technical designs and guiding cross-functional delivery teams.

Preferred candidates will have experience with cloud platforms—particularly Microsoft Azure—as well as Java EE or .NET ecosystems. Proficiency in modeling languages like ArchiMate, tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect or Alfabet, and frameworks aligned with TOGAF principles is highly valued. Background in microservices, web services, and integration technologies (e.g., MuleSoft, Talend, Software AG) strengthens your profile.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Nottingham, requiring consistent office presence. The environment emphasizes collaboration, inclusivity, and professional growth. You’ll work within a diverse, supportive culture that values individual contributions and promotes equitable opportunities for all.
