Internet Measurement Research Intern working within the BGP research group at Cisco ThousandEyes. The intern will analyze large-scale BGP data, characterize routing behavior and dynamics, and prototype algorithms to improve understanding of Internet topology and interconnection, with the goal of turning research into practical, product-influencing solutions. What You'll Do
- Work on concrete, open-ended research problems related to BGP and Internet-scale data
- Use statistics, data science, and AI/ML techniques to analyze large-scale BGP data
- Characterize routing behavior and dynamics
- Prototype algorithms that advance understanding of Internet topology and interconnection
- Collaborate closely with experienced researchers, engineers, and product partners
- Be mentored by a dedicated researcher
- Own a well-scoped project from exploration and prototyping toward production solutions
- Contribute to internal research artifacts, technical reports, and research publications
- Present findings at leading community and academic venues such as NANOG, RIPE, and IMC
What We're Looking For
- Working towards a PhD in Computer Science (we will consider strong master’s students with research experience demonstrated through publications)
- Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, HTTP, etc.)
- Hands-on experience working with BGP data or routing measurements (e.g., route collectors, MRT data, routing tables, updates)
- Existing portfolio of network measurement projects (publication and/or course projects)
- Proficiency in Python and common data science libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc)
- Great written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills
