The Information Assurance (IA)/Cybersecurity Engineer will maintain and enhance the security posture of mission-critical systems within a Department of Defense environment. The role involves implementing security controls, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards, and coordinating vulnerability remediation across Azure and hybrid enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
- Implement, sustain, and evaluate security controls for Azure and hybrid enterprise systems in alignment with organizational policies and cybersecurity standards
- Support compliance and authorization processes by preparing, reviewing, and maintaining required security documentation and artifacts
- Perform validation of security controls, analyze vulnerabilities, and conduct risk assessments across systems and platforms
- Monitor the security status of systems and coordinate with engineering teams to address identified vulnerabilities and findings
- Provide information assurance guidance during system modifications, deployments, and upgrades to maintain effective and compliant security controls
- Assist in incident response and cybersecurity event management, including analysis, containment support, and post-incident remediation
- Evaluate system configurations, architectures, and operational practices to detect security gaps and potential risks
- Work with senior Azure engineers and architects to integrate security requirements into system design and implementation
- Support continuous monitoring by reviewing security-related logs, alerts, and assessment outcomes
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance evaluations by supplying technical evidence and security expertise
- Track and manage plans of action and milestones (POA&M) and associated remediation efforts
- Maintain up-to-date security records, including control implementations, assessment results, and remediation documentation
Requirements
- Minimum of four years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, or security engineering, or equivalent experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related discipline
- Alternative combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered
- Proven experience in supporting or securing Microsoft Azure environments
- Hold Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or higher certification
- Must satisfy DoD 8570 / 8140 IAT-II requirements, such as Security+, SSCP, or GSEC
- Active Secret clearance is required
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
Nice to Have
- Possession of advanced security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CAP
- Experience applying secure cloud architecture principles in Azure, including identity management, access controls, network segmentation, and monitoring
- Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance processes in regulated environments
