About the Role

Stanford Medicine Children's Health (Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford) is seeking an Infant Feeding Technician. This role is critical for the nutritional care of our youngest patients, responsible for the safe, accurate calculation, preparation, labeling, storage, and delivery of all feedings—including human milk and formula—in the NICU and other assigned areas.

What You'll Do

  • Retrieve, review, and verify patient feeding orders via the EMR.
  • Prepare human milk and formula according to provider orders using aseptic technique.
  • Calculate, prepare, dispense, and monitor specialized infant formulas, pediatric formulas, human milk, and medical nutrition supplements.
  • Communicate and clarify the nutrition plan of care with the inter-professional team.
  • Verify that nutrition interventions are implemented and patient needs are met.
  • Deliver prepared feedings to designated locations accurately and on time.
  • Triage calls and in-person interactions for the formula and human milk lab.
  • Store feedings in patient care refrigerators, removing expired items and recycling bottles.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and formulas by performing daily stock checks.
  • Rotate all formulas and supplies using the FIFO method.
  • Monitor formula usage and alert supervisor to surges in demand or stock concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly formula and human milk lab.
  • Ensure all cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting activities are performed and documented per policy, HACCP, and other regulations.
  • Interpret instructions for changes in feedings and adjust volumes accordingly.
  • Scan human milk at various intervals to ensure accurate tracking and safe delivery.
  • Receive expressed human milk from mothers and from breast milk banks.
  • Record and maintain an accurate inventory of all human milk stored in the lab.
  • Check equipment for proper operation and report any problems.
  • Contribute to cost containment through efficient management of time and supplies.
  • Prepare monthly quality assurance reports and production summaries.
  • May assist with call center functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Must adhere to hospital policies, procedures, Service Standards, and Code of Conduct.
  • Must sustain compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Must complete required licensure and health screenings.
