Nord Anglia Education is hiring a High School English Teacher to join our international day and boarding school community in Houston. In this role, you will deliver high-quality English instruction, setting ambitious expectations and supporting all learners towards strong academic outcomes. You will create a safe, respectful, and stimulating environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and mastery of language and literature.
What You'll Do
- Set ambitious expectations for all students and take responsibility for their academic progress in English.
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that promote deep understanding, critical thinking, and advanced literacy skills.
- Create a safe, respectful, and stimulating classroom environment rooted in high standards of behavior and mutual respect.
- Use assessment data to monitor learning, adjust instruction, differentiate support, and provide timely and meaningful feedback.
- Communicate regularly with parents and colleagues regarding student progress, achievement, and wellbeing.
- Participate actively in professional learning, reflect on teaching practice, and implement strategies to improve student outcomes.
- Contribute to extracurricular activities, school events, and wider Nord Anglia Education initiatives, fostering collaboration and global citizenship.
- Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and the school’s values in all interactions.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related field.
- Teaching certification or equivalent professional training.
- Strong pedagogical understanding of English instruction, assessment, and differentiation.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development.
- Expert knowledge of English content and effective instructional practices.
- Demonstrated ability to design coherent sequences of lessons that deepen understanding and build complex literacy and analytical skills.
- Experience using formative and summative assessment to guide instruction, diagnose learning needs, and provide actionable feedback.
- Understanding of how young people develop and the ability to personalize instruction based on ability, background, interests, and learning needs.
- Ability to create and maintain high expectations for student progress, behavior, and classroom culture.
- High professional and ethical standards, modeling integrity and respect.
- Skill in building positive, productive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Flexible, reflective, and committed to continuous improvement.
