This position plays a central role in advancing organizational health across a large healthcare system dedicated to serving Veterans. The specialist collaborates with leadership and behavioral health professionals to integrate High-Reliability Organization (HRO) principles into daily operations, ensuring systems are resilient, responsive, and consistently safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Define standards and frameworks for launching and managing organizational health initiatives
- Track, evaluate, and align projects with system redesign goals and HRO priorities
- Develop and update Medical Center policies, memoranda, and bulletins to reflect best practices and regulatory requirements
- Apply analytical and scientific methods to address complex operational and programmatic challenges
- Advise on staffing structures and mediate disagreements in workforce planning
- Engage in training programs and professional development activities, both internally and externally
- Partner with regional and national offices to design and assess studies that inform policy and practice
- Support strategic planning to ensure services meet the evolving needs of Veterans and staff
- Lead process improvement efforts by gathering feedback, conducting after-action reviews, and analyzing performance data
- Maintain deep understanding of healthcare system functions, missions, and regulatory environments
Qualifications
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet one of the following criteria: a degree in hospital administration, public health, business, or public administration with relevant healthcare coursework, or specialized experience in healthcare management. This experience must include analytical, administrative, or supervisory roles involving coordination with facility leaders and oversight of clinical or administrative services.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, regulatory standards, and government operations in budgeting, personnel, and procurement. For GS-12 positions, one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent is required, along with proven ability to resolve conflicting regulations and communicate effectively across levels.
Formal on-the-job training programs may also qualify if they include structured learning in health system administration, practical application of principles, and mentorship by experienced administrators.
Work Environment & Benefits
This is an onsite role with a standard Monday through Friday schedule. Limited telework may be permitted on an ad-hoc basis, subject to supervisor approval. Occasional travel and light physical activity are expected.
