Gilead Sciences, Inc. is hiring a Head of Manufacturing Strategy and Operations. You will lead the design and development of a newly created organization to centralize activities supporting our global manufacturing network of 1,400 employees. As a strategic thought partner to the Manufacturing Leadership Team, you will drive the innovation roadmap, including digital transformation, to enable Gilead's 2030 ambitions.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop an organization to centralize activities supporting a complex global manufacturing network.
- Manage a team of 10-20 employees with 4-5 direct reports, overseeing hiring, mentoring, development, and performance management.
- Build and maintain an organization culture consistent with Gilead values, emphasizing quality and safety.
- Develop a digital strategy for Manufacturing in collaboration with PDM and corporate IT/OT/data analytics teams.
- Identify and define the implementation of a modern manufacturing management system (e.g., Lean Manufacturing).
- Define the organizational and operational strategy for the Manufacturing organization, including a process for periodic review.
- Define and deliver on projects identified as part of the Manufacturing strategy.
- Lead collaboration with PDM Network Strategy and Project Management teams.
- Define and implement metrics to drive visibility to the operational performance of the Manufacturing network.
- Define and maintain resource models to support sites, functions, and PDM portfolio management.
- Lead the Operational and Capital budgeting process, including a multi-year view.
- Provide centralized resource management for Manufacturing resources defined in G.Plan (Planisware).
- Design, build, and lead a high-performing organization to drive strategic initiatives.
- Deliver strategic innovation by creating a vibrant cross-functional ecosystem.
- Scan the external environment to develop a roadmap for investment.
- Manage purchase orders, invoice reconciliation, procurement, planning, and other logistics processes for CMOs.
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree or PhD with 16+ years of relevant experience, or BS with 16+ years of relevant experience.
- Degree in a relevant scientific or business discipline is strongly preferred.
- Broad experience in management within a GMP Manufacturing environment.
- Proven success working in a matrixed organization and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong business acumen.
- Ability to design and optimize organizations and understand/translate business and strategic context.
- Experience as a People Leader with accountabilities for creating inclusion, developing talent, and empowering teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with CMC requirements for drug development and manufacturing of a range of product modalities.
- Comprehensive understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, R&D, product commercialization, regulatory framework, and global manufacturing sector trends.
- Familiarity with FDA and ICH guidelines relating to registration, quality, and compliance.
- Experience managing organizational cross-functional initiatives and/or business operations programs.
- Strategic thinking and ability to influence and constructively challenge the status quo.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, draw out diverse views, and show tact and discretion.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, influence stakeholders without authority, network across the organization, and communicate with senior leaders.
- Experience defining the strategy and/or implementing a manufacturing management system.

This is a newly created function within Manufacturing, and you will be a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team. You will report to the SVP of Manufacturing. You will manage a team of 10-20 employees with 4-5 direct reports.
