Serco is looking for a Functional Skills English Tutor to join our team at HMP Dovegate, a Category B adult male prison in Staffordshire. In this impactful role, you will be responsible for teaching and providing educational support to a population of up to 1160 male adult prisoners, serving a range of sentences.
What You'll Do
- Teach Functional Skills English to adult learners within a custodial environment.
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans tailored to a diverse range of learner needs and backgrounds.
- Provide care and support to prisoners, fostering a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
- Work flexibly to deadlines and manage the pressures of a dynamic prison education setting.
What We're Looking For
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) qualification.
- Level 3 subject specialism in English.
- Proven experience in an environment demanding strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
- Recent, relevant teaching experience and appropriate knowledge.
Nice to Have
- Experience working within a custodial environment.
- Experience of working with learners from non-traditional educational backgrounds.
- Good technical knowledge and skills relevant to the teaching role.

This is an onsite role based at HMP Dovegate, near Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.
