About the Role
The individual will serve as the primary director during live game broadcasts, responsible for guiding the creative and technical elements of the production in real time.
Responsibilities
- Lead the direction of live game broadcasts for a professional basketball team
- Collaborate with producers to align on show format and storytelling approach
- Call camera shots and transitions during live events using production switchers
- Coordinate with audio, graphics, and replay teams to maintain production quality
- Ensure timing and pacing of broadcast aligns with network standards
- Troubleshoot technical issues during live production with engineering staff
- Review pre-game materials and scripts to prepare for live direction
- Maintain communication with on-air talent during broadcasts
- Follow production schedules and cue sheets accurately
- Support post-production review by providing feedback on broadcast performance
- Adapt quickly to unexpected changes during live events
- Ensure compliance with league and network broadcast guidelines
- Work closely with stage management for talent positioning
- Oversee the integration of live stats and graphics into the broadcast
- Direct rehearsals and technical run-throughs prior to game day
- Manage timing of commercial breaks and segment transitions
- Ensure video and audio quality meet technical standards
- Coordinate with remote production teams when needed
- Maintain awareness of game developments to direct relevant coverage
- Support the implementation of special features or segments
- Participate in pre-production planning meetings
- Direct multi-camera setups in a fast-paced environment
- Ensure continuity between live action and broadcast elements
- Uphold brand consistency throughout the production
- Respond to direction from senior production leads
