PG&E is looking for a Failure Analysis Engineer Intern to develop proactive solutions for our future energy infrastructure. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you'll gain exposure to asset risk management and failure analysis through practical work in our materials lab.
What You'll Do
- Apply basic engineering principles and scientific theory to perform testing, calculations, and analysis under senior guidance.
- Assist a senior-level failure analysis engineer with performing testing, analysis, and writing reports.
- Perform inspection, analysis, and reporting for our enhanced ignition investigation program.
- Work hands-on in our metallurgical laboratory with an emphasis on failure analysis inspection techniques.
- Operate various lab equipment including a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), light microscopes, and FTIR spectroscopy under supervision.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement of lab activities focusing on sample inventory, processes, job aids, and safety.
- Support miscellaneous engineering and test projects to deliver high-value, innovative solutions.
- Prepare monthly progress reports on productivity, turnaround time, and other critical business metrics.
What We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education towards your degree during and/or after the internship.
Nice to Have
- A completed Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and currently pursuing a Master’s degree with emphasis in material science, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge of engineering research, testing concepts, theories, practices, methods, and techniques.
- Basic investigative skills.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Good organizational and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Comfort with computers and familiarity with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Benefits & Compensation
- Hourly rate: $24.52 to $35.37
