Role OverviewWe are seeking experienced epidemiologists to deploy during disease outbreaks in humanitarian emergencies. In this role, you will lead epidemiological activities to support rapid, evidence-based decision-making in underserved and high-risk regions. Your work will directly influence public health strategies in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the systematic collection and analysis of epidemiological data during outbreaks
- Conduct active case detection to identify and monitor disease spread
- Design, implement, and assess surveillance systems and population surveys
- Supervise and train local and international health staff
- Support the development of public health policies and protocols
- Contribute to outbreak response planning and implementation
- Assist in designing and rolling out vaccination initiatives
- Plan and evaluate water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions
- Carry out mortality and nutritional assessments
- Provide technical guidance to strengthen data-driven decision-making across programs
Qualifications
Candidates must be available for 9 to 12 months and hold a Master’s degree in epidemiology or public health with a focus on epidemiology. A minimum of two years of professional experience post-graduation is required, preferably in low-resource or humanitarian contexts.
Essential skills include proven experience in survey design and evaluation, proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods, and the ability to establish surveillance systems. You should have demonstrated experience managing or training teams and planning public health campaigns. Familiarity with relevant data analysis software is expected.
Preferred Experience
- Proficiency in French or Arabic (level B2 or higher)
- Background in tropical or infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis
- Experience conducting rapid health assessments
- Holding a medical degree
Work Environment
