Canva is looking for an Engineering Manager (cross platform/ML) - Edge AI to lead a new team focused on building real-time, on-device machine learning capabilities for Canva’s Video Studio. In this role, you’ll shape the technical direction, develop cross-platform ML infrastructure in C++, and foster a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture that delivers private, low-latency AI experiences across iOS, Android, and web.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support a team building real-time, on-device ML capabilities from the ground up
- Create clarity and define sustainable ways of working for a new team
- Build healthy engineering practices and grow the people around you
- Ensure the team consistently delivers high-quality outcomes aligned to strategy
- Lead the development of cross-platform, on-device ML infrastructure and features in C++ across iOS, Android, and web
- Set team direction and translate complex, evolving problem spaces into clear priorities and milestones
- Create an environment where thoughtful planning, strong execution, and continuous improvement are the norm
- Partner closely with Platform, Research, Product, and ML stakeholders to deliver meaningful user impact
- Strengthen engineering foundations across architecture, performance, testing, CI, and maintainability
- Support responsible production ML practices including experimentation, iteration, and performance monitoring
- Build an inclusive, psychologically safe culture where people feel supported, trusted, and able to do their best work
What We're Looking For
- Experience leading engineering teams delivering complex technical products
- Comfort engaging in systems programming discussions (C/C++, native APIs, performance trade-offs)
- Experience with or strong interest in ML-powered product capabilities such as on-device ML or inference runtimes
- Strong technical judgment to help teams navigate architectural decisions and trade-offs
- Ability to create focus in ambiguity and support teams to deliver consistently in evolving problem spaces
- Proven track record as a thoughtful people leader who invests in coaching, feedback, and long-term growth
- Commitment to building environments where diverse perspectives are valued and everyone feels they belong
