Airbnb is hiring an Engineering Manager for the Control Plane team within our Distributed Transactional Database organization. You will lead a team focused on building software for reliable, automated database operations and integrating open-source databases with Airbnb's core infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Lead a team of software engineers to build software for reliable and automated database operations, including deployment, cluster provisioning and restore, rolling restarts, configuration, and scaling.
- Ensure open-source databases are well-integrated with Airbnb’s Compute, Networking, and Security infrastructure.
- Work with technical leadership to define and execute a vision and 3-year roadmap for the control plane area.
- Stay in touch with technical designs and decisions, acting as a sounding board for the team.
- Synthesize technical information and represent the team with upper management.
- Align with ORM and SRE teams in Online Data on charters and how core capabilities fit together.
- Attract top talent, mentor individual contributors, and manage their promotions and career development.
- Nurture a culture of rigor and responsible velocity from design through code review to production.
- Represent Airbnb with open-source communities and external alliance partners.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of engineering management experience.
- 6+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
- Experience building and operating distributed databases and services that are long-term and evolvable.
- Experience in organization design for a team that is scaling up.
- Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their Storage, VM, networking, Kubernetes, and Security offerings.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across the engineering organization.
