Unknown Company is hiring an Engineer III (Data Security Analyst)

About the Role

College Board is looking for an Engineer III (Data Security Analyst) to play a critical role in safeguarding our information assets. You will work alongside experienced security analysts and cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate data-related risks, supporting our privacy, compliance, and resilience goals.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with senior cybersecurity staff to support governance committees, capturing action items and tracking deliverables.
  • Maintain and update risk control libraries within our Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) platform.
  • Monitor and triage alerts from DSPM and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools, escalating high-risk findings.
  • Analyze tool-generated reports to identify anomalies, assess risk impact, and support decision-making.
  • Support Legal and Privacy teams with data classification reports and audit artifacts.
  • Contribute to improvements in data protection policies by suggesting platform tuning and reporting enhancements.
  • Classify and tag sensitive data across systems in alignment with internal policies.
  • Participate in internal security awareness initiatives and compliance readiness efforts.
  • Define, implement, and maintain data classification, handling, and access control policies.
  • Configure and tune DLP, DSPM, CASB, and cloud-native security controls.
  • Map and inventory sensitive data using tools like BigID or Microsoft Information Protection (MIP).
  • Provide expertise on encryption, tokenization, and access management for various data types.
  • Participate in risk assessments, control testing, and audits with data owners.
  • Recommend enhancements to data protection tooling and processes based on emerging threats.
  • Monitor data security alerts and triage events, escalating to the Cyber Defense Team as needed.
  • Assist in DLP investigations using forensic and data mining techniques.
  • Utilize internal AI agents to automate the identification of high-risk data interactions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to align data protection practices with policies and laws.
  • Support compliance needs by providing evidence or information for regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver regular data security reporting and metrics, incorporating trends and KPIs.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of relevant experience, including internships or academic projects.
  • Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles (e.g., access control, encryption, incident response).
  • Experience analyzing logs, metrics, or data sets to support troubleshooting or risk assessments.
  • Hands-on expertise with data protection and governance tools (e.g., DLP, DSPM).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Tools or a willingness to learn.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a comfort for learning new AI-driven solutions.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to security or compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Basic familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or data governance concepts.
  • Experience using basic scripting or query tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, SQL).

You will join the Enterprise Security Engineering (ESE) team, which consists of 6 full-time staff and additional contractors.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary range: $125,000 to $135,000

This role operates on a hybrid work model.
