GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy is looking for an Engineer 2 - Mechanical Component Design to join our team in Wilmington, NC. You will contribute to the design and development of new reactor equipment and provide engineering support for our existing fleet. Your work will involve creating design concepts, generating detailed documentation, and ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do
- Perform component design work governed by ASME Section III codes and standards.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and detailed design basis documentation for Nuclear component designs.
- Interface with project managers, project engineers, procurement, and other business partners as needed.
- Understand component material selection & fabrication processes to address supplier non-conformances.
- Perform independent verification of design work, ensuring strict procedure adherence.
- Work closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities.
- Interface and collaborate effectively with internal engineering teams and external suppliers.
- Develop procedures and identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity.
- Work with your technical leader to establish effective work plans, including time estimates, schedules, and processes.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
- Mechanical Design internship or Co-op experience (3 months minimum).
- Ability to work onsite at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC.
- Eligibility to obtain U.S. Government authorization to access U.S. export-controlled information (required for final offer).
Nice to Have
- Nuclear Industry knowledge or experience.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience performing complex engineering analyses.
- Experience performing component design work to ASME Section III standards.
- BWR/PWR reactor or equipment design experience.
- Strong communication skills, capable of clearly articulating technical topics.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, Finite Element Analysis, statistics, and drafting practices (including GD&T and CAD).
- Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment.
- A self-starter willing to take initiative.
