Exmark & Spartan Mowers (The Toro Company) is hiring an Electrical Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and analysis of electrical and electromechanical systems for conventional and next-generation turf care products. You will define vehicle architectures and oversee projects from development through production, ensuring innovation, reliability, and performance.
What You'll Do
- Lead design, development, and analysis projects for electrical systems.
- Architect, design, and develop systems for machine control, electrification, battery systems, alternative power, functional safety, wire harnesses, and diagnostics.
- Design products with consideration for cost, timing, durability, safety, performance, manufacturability, and quality.
- Develop system-level specifications and oversee technical documentation.
- Analyze engineering designs using calculations, testing, data acquisition, and simulation.
- Procure and coordinate the efforts of outside consultants, labs, and suppliers.
- Work with Legal on patent activities and liability avoidance.
- Develop products to meet regulatory requirements and work with agencies to obtain approval.
- Work with engineering management to develop product proposals, establish specifications, objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Understand customer needs to plan products and technologies that exceed expectations.
- Conduct feasibility studies to reveal idea practicality and potential issues.
- Assist the Test department in developing and following test plans.
- Coordinate engineering activity, assign tasks, and empower the project team.
- Inform and update project team members, engineering management, and directors on project status.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Management, Shop, Drafting, Test, Research, Manufacturing, Sourcing and Accounting as required.
- Support current products, production, and suppliers by troubleshooting issues and approving solutions.
- Identify emerging technologies and participate in long-range product planning initiatives.
- Oversee, mentor, and review the work of others; may have direct reports.
- Travel to test sites, distributors, dealers, customers, suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and trade shows as necessary.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics program; or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics from a university with an ABET accredited undergraduate engineering program.
- For Electrical Systems Engineer IV: 7+ years of experience in consumer or industrial product development, having taken products through development and into production, with demonstrated technical competency and engineering judgment.
- For Electrical Systems Engineer V: 10+ years of experience in consumer or industrial product development, having taken products through development and into production, with high technical competency, strong engineering decision making, subject matter expertise, and oversight experience.
- Demonstrated high level of competency in product development, through production, of electrical, electronic, or electrified systems or products.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities of product development teams.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical system level design.
- Demonstrated communication, collaboration and mentoring abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot vehicle electrical systems using machine schematics, meters, oscilloscopes and data acquisition equipment.
- Highly competent oral and written communication skills, in English.
- Results-driven and action-oriented; self-motivated, positive and energetic.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong process orientation and drive for continuous improvement.
- Desire to work in a fast paced, challenging, and evolving environment with a team-first mindset.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple simultaneous projects of various complexities and size.
Nice to Have
- Experience with CAN or similar communication protocols.
- Experience with Li-ion battery development and machine integration.
- Experience working with NRTL’s to achieve regulatory approvals.
- Prior experience in performance management (direct reports) and mentoring and developing others is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated capabilities as a technical leader in embedded electronics, firmware or FPGA development is a plus.
