UPMC Passavant is looking for an ED Patient Services Representative to function under the general direction of Patient Access leadership. You will coordinate patient access for all phases of the revenue cycle, from scheduling and registration through referral and denial management, ensuring a seamless billing process.
What You'll Do
- Reconcile and maintain the First Net Emergency Department Tracking Board and Hospital ADT system.
- Perform accurate registration into hospital systems during downtime and monitor every patient for data integrity.
- Act as the central resource for all ADT registration and problem resolution during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Confirm insurance eligibility, manage third-party reimbursement, and coordinate benefits.
- Counsel patients regarding insurance coverage and financial liability, collecting co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles on the day of service.
- Provide a warm greeting for all patients.
- Properly identify patients to start the clinical record, utilizing biometrics if applicable.
- Facilitate financial gatekeeping with clinical partners.
- Maintain a close working relationship with clinical partners for open communication on alias name changes, information blocks, and behavioral health payors.
- Obtain or update necessary demographic and insurance information.
- Conduct timely patient interviews and registrations at the bedside.
- Generate and complete all applicable forms and communications.
- Obtain signatures for consent to treat and financial responsibility, following all HIPAA rules.
- Remain calm and professional in stressful situations while prioritizing work.
- Anticipate and respond to inquiries from patients, visitors, hospital personnel, and government agencies.
What We're Looking For
- Completion of high school or equivalent.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, various office equipment, and proficient typing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Initiative to work productively with minimal supervision and ability to work well under pressure.
- Act 34 clearance.
Nice to Have
- 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, or 1 year in a medical/billing/fiscal role, or 6 months in a UPMC Patient Access position.
- Medical Terminology knowledge, third-party healthcare coverage experience, and a strong understanding of managed care regulations.
