Audubon Colombia is hiring a Director, Community Building - Latin America & Caribbean

About the Role

The Director, Community Building - Latin America & Caribbean will lead Audubon’s Community Building initiatives in the region, fostering partnerships, capacity-building, and public engagement to support bird and habitat conservation. As part of Audubon Colombia and the broader National Audubon Society, this role ensures strategic leadership and cross-border collaboration across Latin America and the Caribbean.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and build Audubon’s Community Building program in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to foster internal and external partnerships and build support for birds in the Americas in alignment with Audubon’s Community Building strategy.
  • Lead the development of Audubon’s engagement efforts to increase support for birds and bird habitat conservation through a diversity of contexts, geographies, and generations in LAC, such as through 'sister centers' and university chapters.
  • Work with the LAC Communications team to develop and implement strategies to build strong, lasting public engagement in conservation in LAC.
  • Collaborate with LAC program staff supporting Protected Areas, Regenerative Agriculture, and Coastal Resilience Initiatives to apply strategies and tactics that increase community engagement in their projects.
  • Work with colleagues and partners to include equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations in plans for all programs.
  • In partnership with LAC leadership, Audubon Community Building leadership, and the Development team, support a culture of philanthropy and secure funds from individuals, foundations, and bilateral and multilateral agencies, and development banks.
  • Develop partnerships and relationships with funders, donors, and strategic partners to support and grow Audubon's capacity for a diverse set of programs.
  • Develop and manage program and grant budgets.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required and 10+ years' relevant experience in Latin America in community building, wildlife conservation, public service, or related field, including at least three years managing staff and teams, required.
  • A dynamic, high-level strategic thinker, a great spokesperson, and an effective manager.
  • Exceptional leadership skills in a multi-national and multi-cultural context with the proven ability to oversee and mentor professional staff while working effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Superb written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
  • Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to and experience in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • In-depth experience with community organizing and engagement in diverse communities.
  • Clear track record of success in operational roles a must - demonstrated experience taking ideas from concept to design to execution and linking objectives and outcomes to strategic goals.
  • Proven experience in networking, engaging, and successfully cultivating diverse community partners and partnership projects.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing complex or multiple projects through to success, including meeting financial goals, project deadlines, and coordinating the work of key staff and partners.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, judgment, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and build coalitions.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and comfort working evenings and weekends as job responsibilities demand.
  • Demonstrated interest in conservation and commitment to the mission of the National Audubon Society.
  • Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Team & Environment

The role is part of a hemispheric organization with country teams in Latin America and the Caribbean, U.S.-based Chapters, and cross-functional collaboration across conservation, communications, and development teams. The team includes 800 staff and reports to the Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Compensation: Colombia - $290,000,000 - $307,500,000 COP; Chile - $85,000,000 - $95,000,000 CLP; Mexico - $1,750,000 - $1,950,000 MXN

Work Mode

Local-country position based in Santiago, Chile, Mexico City, Mexico, or Bogotá, Colombia. Other remote locations in Chile, Colombia, or Mexico may be considered.
