Optum Tech, part of UnitedHealth Group, is looking for a Director of Actuarial Services to play a pivotal role in shaping our business strategy. You will direct cross-functional teams and influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas and approaches, while leading large, complex projects to achieve key business objectives.
What You'll Do
- Provide actuarial direction and strategy to balance growth and profitability goals
- Provide medical and dental actuarial support to our Public Sector Premier Accounts
- Lead actuarial analyses in support of benefit strategy, trend projections, and network optimization for UMR accounts
- Build relationships with external consulting partners and client actuarial teams to benefit our mutual clients
- Lead internal and external presentations, translating highly complex concepts for a variety of audiences
- Manage large projects with complex work streams and deliver analytics to business partners and clients
What We're Looking For
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years of Actuarial experience, or similar consulting, finance, or analytical work experience
- Experience with actuarial concepts
- Experience working directly with medical and dental benefits
- Advanced or higher level of proficiency with Excel
- Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with PowerPoint
Nice to Have
- ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation, or equivalent work experience
- Experience working in the health care industry, specifically with health benefits consulting or strategy for large group ASO accounts
- Experience with public sector and/or large group accounts
- Familiarity with Power BI, Access, VBA, and/or SQL
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Demonstrated excellent quantitative, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work independently
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize tasks among competing deadlines
- Demonstrated solid project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on communicating complex information to non-technical audiences

Compensation range: $134,600 to $230,800 annually.
