HII, a global, all-domain defense provider, seeks a Digital Research Engineer to explore, prototype, and develop innovative software concepts that support strategic business objectives. In this role, you will design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software within an Agile environment.

What You'll Do

Conduct research on emerging technologies and evaluate their potential for business applications.
Design and develop prototypes to validate concepts and demonstrate feasibility.
Collaborate with product owners, designers, and engineers to translate ideas into actionable solutions.
Apply Agile principles to manage iterative development and deliver incremental value.
Document findings and present recommendations to stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree and 0 years of relevant professional experience.
Equivalent qualifications for IT roles include: NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School graduate, Associate's Degree with experience, Military Paygrade E-5 or above, High School/GED with relevant experience, or a relevant professional certification.
Experience in software engineering, research, or technology innovation roles.
Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and iterative development practices.
Ability to analyze complex problems and propose innovative solutions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML, IoT, AR/VR/XR, or Cloud.
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern development tools.
Background in rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development.
Familiarity with data science workflows and ML Ops principles.
Strong analytical and research skills with a track record of innovation.
