USAA is seeking a Development Product Owner I to serve as a direct representative of the business on an agile team supporting Life Actuarial. You will be responsible for understanding and communicating business vision and needs to write user stories, prioritize work, and guide technical teams in building effective solutions.
What You'll Do
- Work with business and Subject Matter Experts to understand strategy and vision, then write, refine, accept, and prioritize stories and features.
- Own and maintain a prioritized work backlog for one or more Agile teams, including complete user stories with acceptance criteria.
- Serve as a direct representative of the business with one or more delivery teams, representing the customers' perspective.
- Participate in a cross-functional team of UX partners, designers, business analysts, developers, and testers.
- Partner with sponsors, stakeholders, and IT to facilitate translation of business requirements from relevant business processes.
- Partner with change partners and key stakeholders to assist with preparing the business for change and provide tactics and metrics.
- Execute robust test plans, including user acceptance testing and production validation.
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge in multiple business or system domains.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience in addition to the minimum years of experience required, substituted in lieu of degree.
- 4 years of experience in process improvement, project delivery, business/requirements analysis, or a role directly related to supported business operations.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, applicable databases, and project management tools.
- Proficient knowledge with multiple technical software delivery methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.
- Proficient experience analyzing business requirements and identifying opportunities to streamline processes within risk management and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficient understanding of Process Engineering methodologies and Change Management practices.
- Experience working independently to gather business requirements, process flows, and use cases to develop business capabilities, writing user stories, and following development through to user story acceptance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to identify and analyze issues and prioritize solutions.
Nice to Have
- US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
- 1 or more years of experience working in the domain of finance or accounting.
- Prior experience working within Annuity/Life Insurance reserving and/or reinsurance.
- 1 or more years of experience writing requirements and/or conducting Quality Assurance functions for USAA Life Co.
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, finance, actuarial science, or a similar quantitative field.
- Knowledge of life insurance and/or annuity product features.
- Experience working on cross-team initiatives.
