We're seeking a Developer Events Lead to join our compact yet rapidly expanding Marketing team, focused on establishing genuine connections with the developer community through memorable, impactful events. What's the job to be done? - Own comprehensive planning, organization, and execution of developer-focused events including meetups, global conferences, local events, partner events, and livestreams - Manage PlanetScale's conference presence by coordinating booth logistics, securing speaking opportunities, and organizing satellite events - Host in-office community events at the San Francisco headquarters - Launch and manage developer meetups across key technological centers, building grassroots community around database technology - Collaborate with Go-to-Market team to conceptualize and execute field marketing events, including private dinners and unique experiential activities designed to engage prospects and customers - Partner with developer tool companies to co-host events and expand reach - Coordinate and produce livestreams and technical webinars, working closely with technical team members on content - Develop event strategies and measurement frameworks to demonstrate ROI on developer awareness and product-led growth - Manage event budgets and negotiate with vendors, venues, and partners - Require significant travel to connect with developers globally - Work primarily remotely with occasional San Francisco office presence These attributes best describe you: - Deep understanding of developers as practitioners with specific needs and communication styles - Extensive familiarity with developer community and technical event dynamics - Passion for creating authentic, valuable experiences over corporate marketing - Natural ability to build relationships in virtual and in-person environments - Comfortable operating independently while collaborating cross-functionally - Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple simultaneous events - Energized by travel and face-to-face developer engagement What else will help you succeed: - 3+ years experience in event management, developer relations, or technical marketing - Proven track record of comprehensive developer event planning - Strong understanding of developer ecosystem and event value - Experience managing event budgets and vendor relationships - Excellent project management skills - Willingness to travel 30-40% of the time Why PlanetScale: We're redefining high-growth data management and collaborating with exciting brands across gaming, consumer tech, and B2B SaaS.
