Role Overview
As Deputy Laboratory Manager, you will play a central role in maintaining the operational integrity of a specialized laboratory focused on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and molecular diagnostics. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will help supervise daily workflows, uphold rigorous quality benchmarks, and support the delivery of NIPT and genomic testing services with precision and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise end-to-end laboratory operations, ensuring smooth execution of NGS workflows from sample intake to data output
- Lead continuous improvements in standard operating procedures to enhance efficiency, reduce processing time, and maintain high accuracy
- Support the integration of new genomic technologies and assist in transferring methods between platforms or sites
- Work closely with IT and R&D teams to refine Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for better data tracking and reporting
- Oversee inventory control, forecast supply needs, and manage vendor relationships to prevent disruptions
- Act as a primary contact between the lab and internal departments, including Logistics, IT, and international stakeholders
- Identify and resolve technical issues promptly, ensuring all activities comply with internal protocols and regulatory requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should hold a degree—B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D.—in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Medicine, or a related life sciences discipline. You must bring hands-on experience in managing or supervising laboratory operations within an NGS environment.
Essential skills include in-depth knowledge of molecular biology techniques and NGS platforms, strong problem-solving abilities, and a track record of improving laboratory performance. Leadership experience is critical, with demonstrated ability to guide technical staff and communicate effectively with senior-level colleagues.
Fluency in English is required for coordination with international teams. Swedish language proficiency is a strong advantage for local coordination tasks.
Technical Environment
The role operates within a modern molecular diagnostics setting utilizing advanced NGS instrumentation, integrated LIMS platforms, and standardized genomic workflows. Familiarity with these systems is essential for success.
Work Location
This is an on-site position based in Ljubljana, requiring daily presence at the laboratory facility.
