Pima County Government is seeking a Database Administrator I to support the Information Technology Department by managing database systems, ensuring data integrity and security, and collaborating with project teams. This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional committed to public service and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Monitors and optimizes database performance, ensures data integrity, and maintains database security
- Participates in data element standards and provides for the physical dissemination of the data
- Performs application administration, including software installation, optimization, security, patch installation, and upgrades
- Assists with the installation of Database Management Systems (DBMS) packages and upgrades and with the training of users in the use of databases
- Maintains database objects
- Assists with the configuration and support of cloud-based and in-house environments such as SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Agave, and Team Foundation Server
- Analyzes new and existing information systems and provides technology evaluations and recommendations
- Writes and maintains database documentation
- Participates in technical project teams, using data modeling concepts for application designs
- Coordinates with other information technology groups to facilitate database development projects, software upgrades and new product implementations
- Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Department and Pima County
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or technical school
- Three (3) years of experience in database administration
- Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the 'Education' and 'Work Experience' sections of the application
- Valid driver license is required at time of application
- Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment
- Successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review
- Offer of employment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
Nice to Have
- Experience as a database administrator installing, maintaining and supporting MS SQL Server
- Experience with SQL Server backup principles, methods and safeguards
- Experience developing SQL scripts to manipulate data or database structures
- Experience with security principles & practices, and ways they may be applied in a SQL Server environment
- Experience with/knowledge of SQL Server system objects and SQL Server performance tuning/troubleshooting
- Experience using PowerShell or other scripting languages to perform administration tasks on SQL Server or Windows

Compensation: Hiring Range: $63,544 - $76,252 Annually; Pay Range: $63,544 - $88,961 Annually

This is an in-office position located in Tucson, AZ, and cannot be remote
